Feature Programmer

Freeform Labs is looking to hire a generalist feature programmer, to start in August or September of 2019.

Job Description: Develop features for an eclectic variety of games, simulations, and productivity software, for an equally eclectic variety of target hardware that includes VR and AR as well as smartphone and desktop. Collaborate with in-house software architect to develop tools, techniques, and software libraries that make these tasks easier and more enjoyable.

Traits of an Ideal Candidate:

  • Portfolio contains

    • a desktop or mobile application,

    • a software library,

    • something made in a game engine.

  • Prefers working on user-facing features over developer-facing architecture (but does not dislike the latter).

  • Demonstrable experience with at least three application frameworks (e.g. Qt, WPF) and/or game engines.

  • Some familiarity with web technologies.

  • Effective at technical communication. Ideally, can support this with examples of well-written bug reports, specifications, or documentation.

  • Can effectively navigate and comprehend 3rd party source code. Bonus points for accepted PRs to an open-source project.

  • Lives in, or intends to move to, the Greater Los Angeles Area.

  • Is driven to excel at whatever it is that they do.

Front-End Web Developer

Freeform Labs is looking to hire a front-end web developer, to start in August or September of 2019.

Job Description: Design and create visually refined websites. Collaborate with in-house art director to compose a variety of media into cohesive designs, leveraging expertise in CSS and familiarity with graphic design programs. Iterate upon a streamlined development pipeline with in-house software architect. Utilize cutting-edge web technologies including integration of game engine content via WebAssembly, WebGL, A-Frame, and others yet to come.

Traits of an Ideal Candidate:

  • Portfolio contains at least two websites (live or not) that exhibit both design and programming capabilities, but with an emphasis on design over programming.

  • Has experience with static site generators.

  • Has experience with transpiled HTML/CSS/JS alternatives.

  • Technically adept at graphic design programs like Illustrator & Photoshop.

  • Effective at technical communication. Ideally, can support this with examples of well-written bug reports, specifications, or documentation.

  • Can rapidly learn new technologies, even when they’re poorly documented.

  • Lives in, or intends to move to, the Greater Los Angeles Area.

  • Is driven to excel at whatever it is that they do.
